What are some words that come to mind when you think about your creative style?
- Impactful. Energetic. Vocal. Passionate.
What are you currently working on?
- A video series for a university that covers unique and interesting history.
What is a piece of advice around creative work that you call to mind often?
1. Take a second look before you hit submit.
2. Lean into those instincts and explore.
3. Go the extra mile.
4. If it scares you its probably worth it.
How long have you been working with Melissa?
- About 4 months!
What did you come to coaching for?
- I needed someone to talk to that understood where I was coming from as a creative- someone who could intentionally navigate me and give me guidance on my thoughts and feelings without judgement. I also listened to Melissa’s podcast about her journey from the corporate world into freelance and it was very similar to how I was feeling so I thought she could really relate!
What are some ways that coaching has impacted you?
- Working with Melissa on a consistent basis kept me accountable - that was the number one thing that helped me. I needed a push and someone to actually talk to that wasn’t the wind about my crazy ideas. Her homework, lessons, feedback, and resources really helped me think through my decision to go full-time freelance. Specifically, her financial literacy workshop was absolute gold in changing my perspective on how I could actually make my finances work as a freelancer.
Melissa also encouraged me to recognize that I am hard on myself and that I do have a talent that the world deserves to see and that I need to be prouder of my accomplishments. She helped me look at this decision to go full time freelance with a bright and optimistic attitude and think of what could go right instead of dwelling on what could go wrong.
What are some ‘wins’ that you would attribute to being supported by Melissa?
- I took the leap and went for it as a full-time freelancer. Melissa is super encouraging and knowledgeable and so so kind - I really needed someone like her to walk me through a big decision like this.
What are you currently learning about yourself?
- That I am extremely hard on myself. That I care very deeply about my work and what others think about me. That I expect a lot from those close to me and I need to provide a bit more grace. And that I need to be prouder of myself.
What advice would you give to others who are considering working with a creative coach?
- If you keep finding yourself in analysis paralysis and your family/friends/partner are growing tired of hearing about your big, brave, amazing, bold, crazy idea that you just cannot let go - hire Melissa. She will help you navigate the messiness of your creative brain and focus.
Is there anything else you want to share?
- There is never going to be the perfect time to go for it. Excuses will always be there.
